Digital Smile Design: How Digital Tools Support More Personalized Treatment Planning
Digital Smile Design, or DSD, is increasingly used to plan aesthetic and restorative dental treatment. It can combine facial photographs, intraoral scans and three-dimensional computer-aided design to simulate a proposed smile and improve communication among the patient, clinician and dental laboratory. Recent reviews suggest potential benefits for patient satisfaction and treatment acceptance, but a digital simulation cannot guarantee the final clinical result and does not replace a comprehensive examination.
